Lost to End in 2010

The end is in sight for ABC’s acclaimed island mystery Lost, but fans will have to wait until 2010 for all the answers.
In a highly unusual move, the network announced plans today to end the show after three more shortened seasons of 16 episodes each. The episodes will air consecutively, repeat-free, from February to May.
ABC’s bold step marks a response to the show’s producers, who have been eager to set a finish line to better plot out their convoluted mystery of plane-crash survivors and to placate fans who are frustrated that the show seemed to be vamping its way to a conclusion.
That’s four months on, eight off, for those keeping track. Before you go ballistic, hear me out. This is a very very good thing.

Honestly my first reaction was, “well that sucks”, but the more I think about it I agree with the producers on this one. Lost is definitely the kind of show that has a lot of questions that desperately need answering. Setting a definitive deadline is a good idea because without this goal (the end) the producers have no idea how quickly or how slowly they need to wrap things up. Sure, eight months off is going to suck, a lot. This magnitude of suckage (yes, it is a word) will be hopefully outweighed by absolutely mind-blowing episodes during the final three seasons. Maybe I am just trying to put a positive spin on an otherwise crappy thing, but I am hooked on Lost (like whoa) and I will take whatever I can get at this point.
p.s. Last night’s episode (ep. 20 – “The Man Behind the Curtain” was incredible…)
