So… I’m Brilliant

So I am so very intelligent. I was playing around at work the other day and I decided to try and DoS (Denial of Service) attack my computer to see if I could bring it down. This was accomplished with a simple ping flood (ping -f IP_ADDRESS at the command line)Well, I am happy to note that it didn’t bring down my Windows XP SP2 machine…it didn’t even slow down the system at all. On a different note, I managed to effectively hose my internet connection by flooding it though. My internet connection was so busy responding to the ping flood that it took forever to do just about anything else….I could have sworn I remebered to stop the fllod, apparently not though.

Onto a real DDoS…Friday morning I went into work only to find out website down. It turns out were were being hit by a massive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. We were getting hit several times a second by zombies across Spain and several miscellaneous military computes. After blocking access to these IP’s…which honestly did nothing, the DDoS subsided and we got our site back. Hopefully this doesn’t become a pattern. Check out the network information during the DDoS.
