Gettin ready to leave

So guess who the genius is who cut his nose while shaving? I’ll give you one guess. lol … So yeah, I managed to cut the underside of my nose when I was shaving my moustache (or lack of). Ah well, it adds character. I am looking forward to this break very much. I love train rides, they tend to be so relaxing; much more so than driving to and from home. It’ll be a nice chance to get some serious reading done (I have to read 2 and 1/2 books this weekend). It’ll be nice to see my brother, I get to see him maybe every couple of months at this point. Family is always a great thing. It’s funny how even after months apart with only a few quick conversations things just seem like there was no gap in time when we’re all together again. Anyways, I am going to go and wake a certain someone up to get a hug before I take off.

Happy Turkey Day!

Xerox tracks your photocopies

Xerox tracks your photocopies

GIANT PHOTOCOPYING firm Xerox has admitted designing its colour photocopiers so that they put a hidden code on your copy that will help the US government identify you.

How scary is that? I am sure there are plenty of people saying, “Yeah, but you have to be using a Xerox copier for this to matter” And my response would be, “Yes, but a vast majority of office copiers are made by Xerox. Scary stuff.  gulp

Installed Tiger on PearPC

I honestly don’t know what all the hassle over trying to install Tiger on PearPC was about. I had Panther already installed, like most people who are already using PearPC, then all I did was make an ISO of the DMG file … mount the iso like you would any other ISO in PearPC, boot… copy the DMG from the ISO onto the HD that Panther is already installed on, then shutdown PearPC and mounted a new empty HD (for Tiger) and then rebooted. I then started the install from inside Panther and choose to install it on the empty new HD because you can’t install it on the currently mounted volume anyways (duh) …that’s it. Literally, if you’re installed Panther you can figure out how to install Tiger.

As for Tiger, it’s nice, it’s noticeably a little slower than Panther (especially on PearPC), but overall it’s nice. It’s a little strange because I’ve mainly been playing with Tiger on our dual 1.8Ghz G4’s at work, so this is obviously a huge drop in speed, but ah well. Spotlight, is well, a waste of time and money. It’s no different than the search that’s already in Panther (and already included in Windows since Windows 95). Dashboard…well don’t even get me started. Such a huge waste of space, time, money, and system resources. It’s absolutely no different than Konfabulator, and if I was the company that created Konfabulator I would be suing Apple’s sorry ass for stealing my product.

Site Update: Expression Engine 1.2 Final

ExpressionEngine 1.2

As you may have read, about a month ago I was accepted into the beta teating of Expression Engine 1.2 which included the very anticipated Photo Module. Now, after 3 beta’s Expression Engine 1.2 final has been released. It’s hard for me to see the changes/updates/new features since I’ve been using this for the past month, but I’d highly reccommend the upgrade for anyone who it interested in a photo gallery and is currently using EE. The Photo Module has been seemlessly intergrated into EE so there is a consistant system of templates, formatting, etc. Anyone not already using EE, this is even more of a reason to make the move to this amazing blogging engine.

The ExpressionEngine Photo Gallery supports advanced features like image watermarking, cropping, resizing, rotation, thumbnailing, nested categories, batch importing, multiple galleries, and more.  You can even email your photos to your gallery!

[Update] I just remembered one of the major new features, EE 1.2 finally has support for the Blogger API which is a big deal for some people (not me, as previous posts have stated).

One thing, Two Thoughts

I know they are just trying to do the nice thing,

I know they are just being a good friend,

but sometimes I just want to be alone when I feel like this.

It is nothing personal,

Sometimes I just want to hide away in my hole on these days.

I do appreciate your attempts to help,

but sometimes I just can’t.

I have amazing friends,

They would do anything for me,

and I am supremely grateful for them,

Please don’t take it personally,

If I just want to hide.

Development Blog Powered by Tiger Server

Development Blog on Tiger Server

This is my new test blog that is running on Tiger Server. We just got our (legit) copy yesterday. I am loving it so far. Spotlight is useless. Mail’s UI is no different. XGrid looks promising. And as this post is primarily about, the built in Weblog server (part of the web server) is very easy to get up and running. It’s just very tragic that they are using tables for there blogs. Needless to say, the code of the page is an utter mess. It’s a step in the right direction at least.

BetaNews | Google Debuts Scholarly Research

Google Debuts Scholarly Research

Google has publicly unveiled Scholar, a free beta service for academic research. Scholar pulls up relevant information from a combination of sources such as peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts, and technical reports.

When aggregating results, the Scholar search engine takes into account the full text of articles, author, publication, and frequency of citation in academic research.

So very cool. Good thing I just happened to have a Individual Difference in Personality research paper coming up next week.  tongue laugh Also, good thing I have access to these journals through the Vassar library. This is a nice service for finding the articles, but it still requires you (our your institution) has a subscription to the magazine.
